The Art of Calligraphy
This course provides knowledge about the origins of calligraphy and the history of its development in Malaysia. In terms of practical application, students will be introduced to the initial steps of creating the fundamental letters of Arabic calligraphy. The course focuses on mastering the techniques used in calligraphy writing using pencils, brushes, watercolour, oil paint, crayons, and other materials. Students are exposed to the techniques of producing calligraphic artwork and taught how to use other senses, such as intellect, heart, and emotions, to create high-quality calligraphic art. This course is conducted through both theoretical and practical approaches.
Fine Art
This course provides knowledge about the origins of fine art and its historical development in Malaysia. It focuses on mastering the techniques used in fine art using pencils, brushes, watercolor, oil paint, crayons, and other materials. Students are not only exposed to the techniques of creating artwork but also taught how to use other senses, such as intellect, heart, and emotions, to produce high-quality art. This course is conducted through both theoretical and practical approaches.
Nasyid
This course provides knowledge about nasyid in terms of its definition, both traditional and contemporary, as well as song categories and melodic embellishments such as Nahwan, Bayati, and Sirah, along with performance techniques. The course also focuses on individual and group vocal control and harmony in singing. It is conducted through both theoretical and practical approaches.
Choir
This course requires students to engage in singing skills involving two, three, and four-part harmonies: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, covering various song styles and textures, including monophonic, homophonic, and polyphonic arrangements. It also aims to give students exposure and experience in ensemble vocal singing. Additionally, students will be introduced to techniques in group singing, common singing issues, and ways to overcome them. The course focuses on posture, breathing, pronunciation, registration, and tone production. Basic conducting techniques will also be introduced as a foundation for becoming a choir leader.
Theater
The course begins with an ice-breaking session where trainees will be tested on their memory skills by recognizing names and some details about their peers. Overall, this activity enhances the trainees’ memory, allowing them to familiarize themselves with all their peers within just half an hour. Meanwhile, the spiritual training segment encourages trainees to be more self-aware and sensitive to others. The ultimate goal of this theater-based exercise is for trainees to develop discipline, minimize idle talk, and maintain a high level of focus.
Kompang
This course provides students with exposure to the fundamentals of kompang playing, including drumming techniques and group performances. In a performance setting, a kompang ensemble typically consists of three groups, each with its respective roles. The first group, known as “Pelalu,” comprises several players who perform a specific, uniform drumming pattern as the foundation beat. The second group, called “Peningkah,” usually consists of a single leader who plays a crucial role in the performance. The third group, known as “Pelanak,” plays decorative rhythmic patterns to complement the overall drumming structure. This course also applies theoretical and practical learning in organizing activities and providing community service.
