The Centre for the Development of Soft Skills (PPKI) is the leading entity in implementing Credit-Bearing Co-Curricular Courses at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). It strives to produce holistic graduates with high Soft Skills (KI). Therefore, the Centre for the Development of Soft Skills is responsible for instilling seven key soft skills in every student enrolled in these credit-bearing co-curricular courses. Additionally, the centre is a medium as an alternative intermediary between the university and students in fostering efforts to enhance Soft Skills (KI), ultimately producing holistic and competitive graduates in the job market.

The offering of co-curricular courses for bachelor’s degree (Honours) programs is part of an effort to shape students who are mentally, physically, emotionally, and intellectually balanced. The courses offered by this unit are categorized into eight (8) core areas, namely:

  • Sports Core
  • Cultural Core
  • Volunteerism Core
  • Public Speaking Core
  • Leadership Core
  • Entrepreneurship Core
  • Community Service Core
  • Innovation & Initiative Core

The Centre for the Development of Soft Skills is responsible for managing the implementation and offering of these courses.

Brief History of PPKI’s Establishment

On October 19, 2006, the University Management Meeting (MPU) agreed to establish the Co-Curriculum Unit under the supervision of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) specifically to offer Co-Curriculum Courses.

In 2008, the Co-Curriculum Unit was upgraded to the Co-Curriculum Centre and became an independent Responsibility Centre (PTJ) while maintaining its existing functions.

In line with the government’s aspiration to enhance students’ Soft Skills (KI) in 2010, the University Management changed the name of the Co-Curriculum Centre to the Centre of Soft Skills Development (PPKI), continuing its role in implementing Credit-Bearing Co-Curriculum Courses and leading efforts to produce Holistic Graduates with excellent Soft Skills.
